None of us thought that we would survive, but here we are – one year later and still married. We went to a very nice restaurant in the Singapore botanic Garden and had soft shell crab and other very nice seafood. A very nice evening.

I know I’m going to get a beating for this post but lets see what happens……..

Karina went out shoe-shopping today. She managed to look at two pairs but ended up buying only one of them…..

Maybe I should mention (just for my own healths sake!) that I also bought a pair of shoes. Mine was golf shoes though, which of course does not count as “real” shopping.

Having bought my golf set I of course had to start playing as well. I went to a 9 hole course a month ago and was pleasantly surprised by my own performance. I did one hole on par and the rest I don’t want to speak about
I have started my own performance measurement – instead of working with handicap I count my success in the number of lost balls.

Yesterday I went with a Danish friend of mine for the second time and things went far better. I managed to only loose 3 balls this time and even did a nice first shot directly on to the green on the 9th hole. Hmm – maybe now is the time to actually get some training with a coach of some kind….

Its been a while since I posted and actually for no particular reason. However I thought it was worth mentioning that my in-laws were here in February for a couple of weeks. It was their first trip to Asia and quite an experience for them. To smoothen it all out a bit (and because my mother in law turns 60 this year) we went for a 2 nights relaxing holiday to Batam – an Indonesian island just ½ an hour by boat from Singapore. We decided to go to a resort called Turi Beach on the north side of the Island. Coming from busy Singapore and then only spend time doing absolutely nothing for two days was great. The resort was not of the same class as Japamala in Malaysia that we visited last year – but I guess most of you Danish readers will be saying: “Who’s complaining”! – I guess you’re right. Karina has already mentioned this wonderful fruit that so many love and equally many hate. One thing that is quite funny about it is its smell in raw form. Its funny because you can see it all around Singapore mentioned next to flammable liquids, explosives, guns and other nice stuff not permitted in public transport, shopping centres etc. Why? Well it REALLY smells awful. A bit like rotten eggs combined with sewage! I guess you’re wondering what the hell they are using it for then. Well the answer is quite simple: ice cream of course! Yes, you read it correctly – ice cream. And its not even the only thing. You can get it in all sorts of food and the taste it OK. Nothing I would miss when leaving Singapore but definitely something you have to try while here.

Denmark played Malaysia yesterday in a very fierce game of badminton. The heat was unbearable and it really took a lot of energy out of the Danish player. Did I mention that the player was me and the Malaysian was a colleague from work? I got my ass kicked (no numbers mentioned), but given the time since I played badminton the last time (approx. 15 years) I think I did OK.

I attended a wedding here in Singapore a few weeks back. The groom was a colleague from work, who had invited a lot of people. You might think a lot of people is around 100 as it is normal in Denmark but in the Singaporean tradition that number is closer to 300. We were invited for lunch on a Sunday at a very nice hotel in Singapore called Fullerton. The weddings here do not last as long as they do in Denmark. Instead parts of it are held in the morning before the sun rises. Here the Groom has to pick of his (still) future wife from her parents place – similar to what we do in Denmark were the father hands over his daughter in the Church. A very different experience for a “Ang Mo” (white face) like me but also a very nice and cosy afternoon.

Having lived in Singapore for 7 months now its hard not to hear someone talk about golf. Next to the usual Singapore things to do (shopping, eating, working) golf definitely is a top-5 interest here. Therefore Karina and I decided to try the game out and have now enrolled in a 10 hour training class with personal trainer and video recordings of your shots (you get compared to Tiger Woods!).
I have bought a set of irons and drivers and should be ready to go. Hopefully the trainer is a patience guy…….

We went to the National Museum of Singapore yesterday to catch a photo exhibition, which sounded interesting. The exhibition itself was nothing special, however the fixed installation about the Singapore History was very well made. In typical Singapore fashion everything was planned down to the smallest detail. This involved a small Ipod look-a-like player, which every visitor got at the entrance. Keying in numbers found on the floor of each section gave you all sorts of information – very much like your own personal guided tour. Small video clips displayed around the museum started automatically with sound from your Ipod-thingy when you approached then and it actually was a very good experience.

Its been a while since my last post mainly due to work related tasks up to Christmas.

Karina and I have just returned from Denmark where we have spend the Christmas and New Year holidays. A nice retreat back to good old Danish customs and a bit of pampering by mom/dad and the in-laws

Coming back to Singapore wasn’t too bad either. The weather is definitely better than in Denmark…..

The Christmas greeting in front of our condo might have been a bit more cheerful – but don’t say you haven’t been warned in case you got the idea to bite the electrics (see the picture)
